Volleyball on the road for two matches this weekend

Bearcats head to Stony Brook Friday, Hartford Sunday

VESTAL, N.Y. - The Binghamton volleyball team (4-13, 2-2 AE) is on the road for two America East matches this weekend. On Friday, the Bearcats will travel to Stony Brook to face the Seawolves at 7 p.m. follow up by a 1:00 match at Hartford on Sunday.

Bearcats coming off a 1-1 weekend
Binghamton is returning to the court after posting a 1-1 record at home this past weekend. On Friday the Bearcats topped UMass Lowell in straight sets and then dropped a match to UNH, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.

Gaby Alicea lead the Bearcats with 27 kills in the two matches while Samantha Gioiosa recorded 25 digs on Sunday to tie her career-high.

Stony Brook stays on top
The Seawolves (10-8, 4-0 AE) remain at the top of the America East standings as the lone undefeated team. Most recently, SBU defeated UAlbany 3-1 at home last Friday. Emily Costello lead Stony Brook with 13 kills and also tallied 12 digs while LeAnne Sakowicz notched 47 assists. At the conclusion of the week Sakowicz was named America East Setter of the Week.

The last time the Bearcats and the Seawolves met was in the 2017 America East Championship. Stony Brook defeated Binghamton in straight sets to advance to the NCAA Tournament.

A look at Hartford
The Hawks (8-8, 1-3 AE) fell to Albany in straight sets last Sunday. Jenna Bridges posted a team-high 10 kills while libero Alex Luvero finished with 11 digs and Megan Anderson dished out 25 assists.

The Bearcats and the Hawks split their two meetings last season with Hartford topping Binghamton 3-2 at home and the Bearcats coming out with a 3-1 win in Vestal.

The Bearcats host UMBC on Friday, October 19. The match marks the first volleyball event at Binghamton to be streamed on an ESPN platform.
