Men’s Soccer Defeated 2-0 at West Virginia

Mountaineers score twice in a five-minute span

MORGANTOWN, W.V. – Ryan Kellogg and Josh DiMatteo each scored a first-half goal, leading West Virginia (7-4-0) to a 2-0 win over Binghamton (3-6-2) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Tuesday night at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The loss snaps the Bearcats' two-game winning streak.

The Mountaineers scored twice within five minutes of the first half. Kellogg scored off a rebound from close range in the 21st minute. DiMatteo, meanwhile, headed in a cross from the far post in the 26th minute.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Isaiah Pettis made his first start of the year and finished with a career-high 10 saves. His biggest stop, however, came on a penalty kick in the 13th minute.
West Virginia finished with an 18-4 shot advantage. Shots on goal, meanwhile, were 13-1.

The Bearcats return home to resume America East Conference play. The Bearcats face Stony Brook on Saturday at 6 p.m. in their annual Homecoming game. Both teams a 2-0-0 in conference play with sole possession of first place at stake.

NOTE: The match was delayed for 45 minutes do to lightening in the area .. the last time a Binghamton player saved a penalty came on Sept. 12, 2015 by Robert Moewes at Marist.
