LOWELL, Mass. - Binghamton volleyball (5-18, 3-7 America East) hit .529 in the deciding fifth set to outlast host UMass Lowell (4-21, 2-9 AE) 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Costello Athletic Center. The Bearcats won 25-20, 21-25, 17-25, 25-20, 15-12 to keep within striking range of a playoff spot.
In the fifth set, the score was 10-10 before BU took control. Freshman hitter
Tyra Wilson put down a kill to give the Bearcats an 11-10 lead. Junior hitter
Victoria Keghlian then had two of the team's final four points, including the match-ending kill. Binghamton had 11 kills and just two errors in 17 attacks during the pivotal set.Â
For the match, senior hitter
Gaby Alicea wound up with 19 kills, 15 digs and five blocks. Classmate
Erin Shultz had 14 kills and 14 digs. Keghlian chipped in 12 kills and sophomore
Samantha Gioiosa produced 20 digs and three aces. Up front, freshmen setters
Kiara Adams and
Natalie Novak handed out 30 and 20 assists, respectively.
The Bearcats completed the season sweep and improved to 15-0 all-time against UMass Lowell.
The team has two matches remaining in the regular season. Binghamton will host Hartford on Friday night and then welcome league-leading Stony Brook to the West Gym on Sunday. The Bearcats are tied with Hartford for the fourth and final playoff spot.Â
