NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Marina Mabrey and Jackie Young each scored 21 points, powering second-ranked Notre Dame (9-1) to a 103-53 win over Binghamton (5-6) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Sunday afternoon at the Joyce Center.
The game marked the Bearcats' first-ever contest against the defending NCAA Division I champions. In addition, the Fighting Irish were the highest ranked opponent that Binghamton has faced during its 18-year NCAA Division I era.
Senior forward
Rebecca Carmody led the Bearcats with 12 points while sophomore guard
Lizzy Spindler added 10 points. Freshman forward
Annie Ramil, meanwhile, added a game-high 12 rebounds.
Binghamton was within 28-18 at the end of the first period. Carmody scored six of her points during that stretch, including a three-point field goal at the buzzer.
In the second period, however, the Irish scored the first 21 points to take a commanding 51-18 lead with 4:40 remaining. The Bearcats closed the half with eight of the final 13 points, making the score 56-29 at the break.
Notre Dame outscored Binghamton 33-12 in the third period and both teams emptied the bench in the fourth period.
Junior guard
Carly Boland finished with nine points while sophomore forward
Kaylee Wasco added eight points.
Jessica Shepherd added 18 points for Notre Dame.
Binghamton concludes its Midwest road trip at No. 16 Marquette on Monday with an 8 p.m. EST game.
