Men's basketball overtaken by Morgan State 74-68

Sessoms and Show combine for 41 points but host Bears rally from 20-point second-half deficit

BALTIMORE, Md. – Host Morgan State (3-5) erased a 20-point second-half deficit and pushed past Binghamton men's basketball (3-6) 74-68 Wednesday night at Hill Field House.

The Bears amped up their pressure in the second half, forced 12 turnovers and put 46 points on the board.

"They turned us over in the second half," head coach Tommy Dempsey said. "It snowballed and we couldn't pull ourselves out of it. Morgan State played a great second half … they didn't allow us to execute our offense."

Binghamton stretched a 16-point halftime lead and led 48-28 early in the second half before the wheels came off. Morgan State reeled off a 16-0 run as BU was held off the scoreboard for more than six minutes. The Bears took the lead for good on a three with 7:59 to go before the teams traded hoops over the next few minutes.

Freshman guard Sam Sessoms hit his sixth three-pointer of the game with 1:11 left, pulling BU to within two, 68-66. But the Bears made six free throws in the final 46 seconds to seal it.

Sessoms wound up with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting. Senior guard J.C. Show added 19 points and eight rebounds.

The Bearcats trailed 14-11 seven minutes into the game before embarking on a 23-7 run that gave them a 34-21 lead with four minutes left in the half. Senior guard Timmy Rose drilled a corner three at the halftime buzzer to stake BU to a 44-28 intermission lead.

Sessoms had 14 points and Show 13 points in the first half as BU shot 48 percent.

The Bearcats return home to host Loyola at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
