Baseball rips Northwestern State 10-3 for first win

Krowiak, Meduri, Marshall with 2 RBI each in 15-hit attack; Wegmann pitches strong 5 inn.

Natchitoches, La. - Binghamton baseball (1-2) ripped 15 hits and broke open the game with a five-run eighth inning en route to a 10-3 win over Northwestern State (2-1) in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Brown-Stroud Field.

The Bearcats led 5-1 before sending nine men to the plate in the eighth and scoring five runs on five hits. Junior left fielder Anthony Meduri started the onslaught with a two-run single.

The offensive output was more than enough for senior left-hander Nick Wegmann (W, 1-0), who scattered five hits and one run over 6.0 innings. Wegmann allowed a first-inning run before shutting down the host Demons over his final five innings. He induced three double-play ground balls to aid his cause, including inning-ending twin-killings in the second and third innings.

Senior center fielder CJ Krowiak went 4-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI. Krowiak hit a two-run single in the second inning to snap a 1-1 tie and give BU the lead for good.

Freshman first baseman Shane Marshall went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI. He delivered an RBI single in the seventh and hit an RBI double in the eighth.

Senior designated hitter Jason Agresti and senior shortstop Paul Rufo had two hits and an RBI apiece.

Binghamton plays a weekend set at Liberty (Va.) beginning with a single game Friday afternoon.
