Kassidy Seary had three RBI and senior third baseman
Kate Richard drove in a pair of runs, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the second day of the Lamar Cardinal Softball Classic. The Bearcats (1-3) won 6-2 against Loyola-Chicago in their opener but were shut out 2-0 by the host Cardinals in the finale.
Seary's three RBI against the Ramblers represents her career high. Richard, meanwhile, had two RBI for the second time this season. Both of them finished the day 2-for-6 (.333).
Against Loyola-Chicago, Richard opened the scoring on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning. Three innings later, Seary made it 2-0 with a RBI single.
Binghamton blew the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Seary delivered the big blow with a two-run double. Richard had a RBI single and another run scored on the play courtesy of a Rambler fielding error.
On the mound, freshman pitcher
Chelsea Howard got the win in her first career decision. Sophomore pitcher
Rayn Gibson recorded a three-inning save.
Against Lamar, however, Binghamton was held to just three hits. It left the tying runs on base when the game ended.
Senior outfielder
Jessica Rutherford hit a team-best .429 for the day (3-for-7) and scored twice. Freshman outfielder
Lauren Martinez was 2-for-5 (.400) with a double.
Binghamton wraps up play at the Lamar Cardinal Classic with a 10:30 a.m. EST game on Sunday against Alabama A&M.
NOTES: Through the first four games, Rutherford is batting a team-best .429 (6-for-14), while Seary is batting .400 (4-for-10).
