Men's lacrosse edged by Vermont, 10-6

Bearcats drop America East contest to the Catamounts Saturday afternoon

BURLINGTON, VT. - The Binghamton men's lacrosse team (1-8, 0-2 AE) fell to Vermont (8-1, 1-1 AE) 10-6 on Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field.

"Hats off to a very good Vermont team," said Head Coach Kevin McKeown. "We didn't finish enough plays today to beat a ranked opponent. We need to learn from today as we move deeper into America East play."

Sean Makar netted to first goal of the game at 11:06 to give the Bearcats an early lead. Vermont closed out the period scoring three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead heading into the second.

Thomas McAndrew scored 13 seconds into the second period to pull the Bearcats back within one goal of the Catamounts. Vermont added to more quick goals to increase their lead to 5-2. Liam Reaume and Joe Grossi then scored back-to-back goals to head into halftime trailing the Catamounts, 5-4.

The Catamounts netted two goals in the third and William Talbott-Shere scored on a pass from Joe Licata for the Bearcats. Vermont lead Binghamton 6-5 with 15 minutes left to play.

Vermont scored less than a minute into the fourth period to increase their lead to 7-5. McAndrew answered for Binghamton, scoring on a pass from Licata to put the Bearcats back within one. The Catamounts pulled away scoring three straight goals to finish the game and defeat Binghamton 10-6.

Kevin Carbone made six saves and picked up eight ground balls for Binghamton.

The Bearcats host Siena in a non-conference contest Tuesday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
