Men's lacrosse defeated by Cornell

Big Red top Bearcats 18-2

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Binghamton men's lacrosse team (0-6) was defeated by Cornell (2-2) on Tuesday evening. The Big Red outscored the Bearcats 18-2 at Schoellkopf Field.

"We didn't get the outcome we wanted today," said head coach Kevin McKeown. "But our team stuck together and continued to play as one unit throughout the entire game. We know we have more work to do and we have the opportunity to play another good non-conference team (Delaware) this weekend to help us prepare for conference play."

Cornell scored seven unanswered goals in the first period to take a 7-0 lead over Binghamton.

In the second period, the Big Red added four more goals and Sean Gilroy scored for the Bearcats. Gilroy netted an unassisted goal with 8:53 remaining. The teams headed into the locker room with Cornell leading 11-1 at the half.

The Big Red netted five goals in the third quarter to increase their lead to 16-1.

Kevin Fuchs scored his first goal of the season to start the fourth period. Fuchs netted an unassisted goal with 11:17 remaining in the game. Cornell scored twice in the final period to take the game, 18-2.

Timothy Mattiace picked up four ground balls and Austin Macchi won 11-of-20 faceoffs for Binghamton. Kevin Carbone recorded five saves in the net.

Binghamton hosts Delaware at the Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday, March 10. The non-conference contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
