lTHACA, N.Y. – Melissa Rahrich fired a two-hit shutout, drove in a pair of runs and scored three times, leading Stony Brook (15-15, 4-4 AE) to a 10-0, five-inning win over Binghamton (11-17, 4-4 AE) in an America East softball game on Sunday afternoon at Cornell University. With the loss, the Bearcats lose the three-game weekend series two games to one.
Rahrich started the scoring in a four-run top of the first inning with a RBI double. Three batters later, she scored from third base on a fielding error. Two of the four Seawolf runs were unearned.
In the top of the third inning, Stony Brook tacked on another two runs. Rahrich was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly.
Stony Brook scored four more times in the top of the fourth inning and Rahrich again played a key role. She drew a bases-loaded walk and later scored on a two-run single by Riley Craig.
Rahrich is now 9-7 with the win while sophomore pitcher
Rozlyn Price falls to 4-8 with the loss.
Price had one of the Bearcats' two hits to finish the weekend series 3-for-7 (.429).
Craig drove in a team-high three runs for Stony Brook.
Binghamton heads to Syracuse on Tuesday for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
