LOWELL, Mass. – Binghamton (11-19, 4-6 AE) was swept in an America East doubleheader at UMass Lowell (14-22, 8-2 AE) on Saturday afternoon by scores of 3-2 and 2-0. The Bearcats allowed four unearned runs in the process.
Senior outfielder
Jessica Rutherford was a perfect 4-for-4 in the opener. Her RBI single in the top of the fifth inning deadlocked the score at 1-1.
In the bottom of the same inning, however, the River Hawks plated a pair of unearned runs to go up 3-1. Binghamton got an unearned run back in the top of the sixth inning but left a pair of runners on base in the top of the seventh inning.
Lovena Capria improved her record to 10-4 with the victory. Despite allowing only one unearned run and striking out eight batters, sophomore
Rayn Gibson took the loss, dropping her record to 5-8.
In the nightcap, Kaycee Talcick fired a two-hit shutout and struck out nine Binghamton batters. She did not allow a runner past second base.
Offensively, the River Hawks got all the runs they needed in the bottom of the first inning. They took advantage of a fielding error with two outs and scored twice on the play.
Talcik improved her record to 3-14 while sophomore pitcher
Rozlyn Price was tagged with the loss, dropping her record to 4-8.
Binghamton and UMass Lowell conclude their America East series with a noon game on Sunday.
