VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Cornell (9-17-1) scored seven runs in the first two innings and went on to defeat Binghamton baseball (10-23-1) 12-3 Tuesday night at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.Â
The Big Red took advantage of three walks, a hit batter and an infield error to fuel their early outburst. Cornell plated four runs in the first inning on just two hits and added three more runs in the second on two hits - the second of which was a two-run home run over the center field wall.Â
Down 7-0, BU scored a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to temporarily tighten the score before Cornell tallied the final five runs of the game.Â
In the fourth, senior center fielder
CJ Krowiak led off with a single and went to second on a walk to freshman right fielder
Andrew Eng. Junior left fielder
Anthony Meduri then grounded a ball to third and the ensuing wild throw to first brought home Krowiak with an unearned run.Â
In the fifth, freshman first baseman
Shane Marshall led off with a single and two batters later, classmate
Jake Evans hit a one-out infield single. With runners on first and second, Krowiak delivered an RBI single to make it 7-2. Eng followed with a sacrifice fly to left field. But BU left a pair stranded and left eight stuck for the game.
Cornell tacked on three runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth. The Big Red outhit BU 10-7.
Krowiak went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Marshall went 2-for-3.Â
Senior
Jake Erhard tossed 2.0 scoreless middle innings with two strikeouts and was the most effective among six BU pitchers.Â
The Bearcats return to host Stony Brook in a key America East series this weekend.Â
