Softball Drops 8-1 Game at Syracuse

Rutherford goes 2-for-3 with RBI single

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Bryce Holmgren drove in three runs and Faith Cain had a pair of RBI, powering Syracuse (27-18) to an 8-1 win over visiting Binghamton (11-21) in a non-conference softball game on Tuesday afternoon. The game marked the Bearcats' final non-conference game of the season.

Cain keyed a four-run bottom of the first inning with a two-run double. She later scored the final run of the frame, putting the Orange ahead 4-1.

Senior outfielder Jessica Rutherford, who finished the game 2-for-3, singled home a run in the third inning, trimming the deficit to 4-1. For the season, she leads the team with a .394 batting average.

Syracuse added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning and one inning later, Holmgren doubled in three more runs, padding the lead to 8-1.

Alexa Romero improved to 17-11 with the victory. The loss was tagged to sophomore Rayn Gibson, who is now 5-10 on the season.

Binghamton was scheduled to play a single conference game at Albany on Wednesday. Due to the impending weather, the game has been rescheduled to next Wednesday, May 2 and will be played at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Start time remains at 3 p.m.

Up next for the Bearcats is a weekend series at Maine, starting on Saturday.
