VESTAL, N.Y. - Senior catcher
Jason Agresti'sĀ three-run home run keyed a five-run outburst in the fifth inning and carried Binghamton baseball (11-25-1, 7-11 America East) to an 8-5 win over Stony Brook (23-19, 9-9 AE) in the series finale Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.Ā
Trailing 4-3, BU batted around in the fifth and scored five runs on six hits - the big blow coming off the bat of Agresti. Senior shortstop
Paul Rufo led off the inning with a walk and went to third when junior left fielder
Anthony MeduriĀ caromed a shot up the middle off the Stony Brook pitcher and into right field. It was the third straight game that MeduriĀ sent a hard-hit ball off a Seawolves pitcher. With runners at first and third and no out, AgrestiĀ sent a 2-1 pitch over the wall in right center for his first home run of the season. Ahead 6-4, BU kept up the attack with four more hits and two runs. Freshman second baseman
Jake Evans brought in a run with an RBI single and senior center fielder
CJ KrowiakĀ plated the eighth run with a sacrifice fly to right. Eleven men batted and the first five reached base as BU bettered its run production from all of Saturday (DH) in just one inning.
After six innings, the Bearcats turned it over to junior reliever
Robert Brown, who pitched the final 3.0 innings and notched his second save of the season. Brown struck out five and scattered three singles. He worked out of a dangerous jam in the seventh, thanks to a liner to second that Evans turned into a double play and an inning-ending strikeout.
Senior starter
Jacob Wloczewski (W, 2-5) went 6.0 innings and allowed seven hits and four runs. Wloczewski struck out four.Ā
Evans went 2-for-3 with two RBI and seniors
Luke Tevlin and
Pat Britt each went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. RufoĀ also had two hits and KrowiakĀ added two RBI.Ā
Down 3-0 early, EvansĀ got the Bearcats on the board in the bottom of the second with a bases-loaded RBI single through the right side. After a strikeout, KrowiakĀ pushed across a second run with an RBI grounder. Stony Brook made it 4-2 with a run in the top of the fourth before freshman right fielder
Andrew Eng doubled down the right field line to lead off the bottom of the fourth. After an Evans sacrifice, sophomore third baseman
Greg SatrialeĀ scored Eng with an RBI groundout to bring BU to within a run, setting the stage for the fifth-inning fireworks.
Binghamton next plays a non-conference game Tuesday at St. Bonaventure before hosting Cornell Wednesday night.Ā Ā
