Baseball defeats St. Bonaventure 4-3

Tevlin drives in deciding run; Satriale and Orlando combine for 7.0 scoreless innings

OLEAN, N.Y. - Senior first baseman Luke Tevlin snapped a 3-3 tie with an RBI single in the fifth inning and the tandem of Greg Satriale and Joe Orlando held host St. Bonaventure off the board for the final seven innings as Binghamton baseball (12-25-1) posted a 4-3 win over the Bonnies (9-25) Tuesday afternoon at Fred Handler Park.

Down 3-2, BU scored twice in the deciding fifth frame. With one out, junior outfielder Anthony Meduri tripled to deep center. Senior designated hitter Jason Agresti drew a walk and both took advantage of a passed ball to move around the bases. Meduri scored and Agresti went to second. Tevlin then plated Agresti with the winning run on an RBI single through the right side.

Meanwhile Satriale (W, 1-0), a sophomore infielder with excellent pitching credentials, threw 2.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts to pick up his first collegiate win. Senior reliever Orlando then shut down the Bonnies over the final 4.2 innings. He allowed just one hit with three strikeouts to post his second save of the year.

Binghamton jumped ahead early with two runs in the first inning. Senior center fielder CJ Krowiak led off the game with a triple to right center. Senior shortstop Paul Rufo walked and then with one out, Agresti hit a sacrifice fly to center, giving BU a 1-0 lead. After Rufo stole second, Tevlin (2-for-4, 2 RBI) ripped a double to left center to make it 2-0.

St. Bonaventure scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take its lone lead. Three consecutive run-scoring hits - all with two out - did the damage after the Bonnies were aided by a hit batter and failed pickoff.

The Bearcats were outhit 10-8 but had a double and two triples and benefited from three host errors.

Meduri and sophomore second baseman Alex Baratta joined Tevlin with two hits apiece.

Binghamton returns home to host Cornell at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.
