Softball begins AE slate against UMBC

Three-game series to be held at nearby Chenango Valley High School

STORY LINES

-Binghamton (7-13, 0-0 AE) lost 4-0 at five-time defending Atlantic 10 champion Fordham on Thursday afternoon. Senior outfielder Jessica Rutherford, who leads the Bearcats with a .371 batting average, had two of the team's three hits.

- UMBC (6-21, 1-2 AE) lost two of our three games to UMass Lowell last weekend. Maddie Daigneau leads the Retrievers in batting (.295) while Imani Dawson has three home runs and Carly Lesko is tops with 12 RBI.

- While Rutherford leads Binghamton in hitting, senior third baseman Kate Richard is batting .328 with a team-high five home runs and 17 RBI. Freshman shortstop Mikayla Alvarez has a .317 average while sophomore designated player Kassidy Seary has driven in 15 runs.

- Binghamton leads the all-time series against UMBC 29-16, having won the past 22 meetings. The Bearcats have swept the past six season series.
