Men's lacrosse handles Hartford 14-10

Sean Gilroy nets six goals en route to Binghamton's third straight win

HARTFORD, CT. - The Binghamton men's lacrosse team (4-8, 1-2 AE) defeated Hartford (3-7, 0-3 AE) 14-10 on Saturday afternoon. Sean Gilroy scored a career-high six goals in Binghamton's crucial conference win.

Thomas McAndrew added three goals and Kevin Carbone made 11 saves in the net.

"Today was a great team win," said head coach Kevin McKeown. "I thought we did a great job of scrapping for extra possessions on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. We were also perfect in the clearing game which allowed us to maximize our possessions offensively."

Sean Gilroy scored less than 30 seconds into the game to give Binghamton an early 1-0 lead. Hartford quickly answered netting three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead over the Bearcats. Gilroy closed out the period scoring back-to-back goals and to tie the score at three.

Hartford scored the first goal of the second period before Binghamton took over - scoring five straight goals. Joe Licata scored on a pass from Jon Perotto with 7:15 remaining and then Thomas McAndrew got in on the action scoring less than a minute later. Perotto netted his first goal of the game with 4:14 remaining and Gilroy added one more at two minutes. McAndrew ended the half scoring an unassisted goal to give Binghamton an 8-4 lead at the break.

The Hawks came out firing in the second half - Hartford scored two quick goals to cut the Binghamton lead to two. Stephen Petrelli answered for Binghamton, scoring his first goal of the game on a pass from McAndrew. Gilroy scored his fifth of the day with 9:44 remaining in the third period to give Binghamton a four-goal lead. Perotto found the back of the net on a man-up opportunity and Hartford scored once more to end the period with Binghamton leading 11-7.

Hartford scored less than a minute into the fourth to cut the Binghamton lead to three but the Bearcats weren't done. Gilroy netted his sixth of the game and Perotto scored his second to give the Bearcats a 13-8 lead. Hartford added two more but McAndrew scored his third of the day with 4:35 remaining to secure the Binghamton victory.
