VESTAL, N.Y. – Tyler Bagley and Emeka Eneli each scored in the first half, powering Cornell (1-0-0) to a 2-0 win over Binghamton (0-3-0) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Friday night at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Bagley's goal came in just the third minute. He took a cross from Vardhin Manoj from the left side of the box and fired it from close range.
Eneli's goal, meanwhile, came right at the buzzer of the first half. The Big Red had a free kick right at the edge of the box with under 30 seconds left. After a series of deflections, Eneli scored from close range.
In the second half, the Bearcats had a handful of scoring chances. One shot, however, hit the crossbar and a second attempt was saved by Cornell goalkeeper Ryan Shellow from close range.
"I was really disappointed with tonight's match on our end," head coach
Paul Marco said. "I thought that us getting a few guys back from injuries would ignite the team spirit in the group. Our back four did not play well tonight. We didn't manage the match well. Hopefully we get a different result in the next match."
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Isaiah Pettis, who subbed in at the start of the second half, had two big saves in the second half, both from close range.
The shots were even at 10-10.
Shallow finished with five saves to record the shutout.
Binghamton returns to the road and faces Monmouth on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
