Men’s Soccer plays to scoreless tie at Monmouth

Bearcats have now played in two overtime games so far this season

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. --  Binghamton (0-3-1) and Monmouth (0-3-1) played to a scoreless tie in a non-conference men's soccer game on Monday night at Hesse Field on the Great Lawn. It marked the Bearcats' second overtime game in four contests so far this season.

Monmouth had the advantage in shots (19-8) and shots on goal (8-4). Redshirt junior goalkeeper Chris Shutler made seven saves to record his first solo shutout of the season.

As was the case two matches earlier against Iona, Binghamton went down a man as sophomore forward Jack Muller picked up a red card six minutes into the first sudden-death overtime period. Unlike that previous match, however, Binghamton did not yield a goal afterwards.

"We played better tonight and started off the match quite well," head coach Paul Marco said. "Our back four were good, Chris Shutler was solid and it was a really good college soccer game."

In the second overtime, the Bearcats had their best scoring chance when sophomore forward Haris Brkovic forced Monmouth goalkeeper Sean Murray to make a big save with just over four minutes remaining.

Up next for Binghamton is a Friday night match at Lehigh. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.

NOTE: Binghamton's most recent scoreless draw came at Stony Brook back on Sept. 30, 2017.
