Men’s Soccer Loses 3-0 at Columbia

Bearcats’ two-game unbeaten run ends

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Kynan Rocks recorded a hat trick, powering Columbia (2-1-1) to a 3-0 win over Binghamton (1-4-1) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Monday night at Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium. The loss snaps the Bearcats' two-game unbeaten streak.

Rocks scored two of his goals in the first half. He finished off a long ball from Dylan Mott in the 23rd minute and deflected in a shot by Vana Markarian in the 38th minute.

After being out shot 9-3 in the first half, Binghamton controlled play for the first 15 minutes after the break. The Bearcats had all three shots, one of which hit the post, during that stretch.

In the 66th minute, Rocks completed the hat trick, finishing off a give-and-go with Sebastian Gumbeyi. He fired the shot in the net from close range.

Binghamton made a strong bid to break the shutout, with three shots in the final five minutes of regulation. The Lions, however, were able to preserve the three-goal margin.

The Lions out shot Binghamton 14-10 for the game but the Bearcats held a 7-5 edge in the second half.

Binghamton returns home to face No. 13 Colgate on Friday at 7 p.m.

NOTE: Rocks is the first opposing player to record a hat trick against Binghamton during its 17-year NCAA Division I era.
