VESTAL, N.Y. –
Imani Watkins, who concluded her career last spring as the Binghamton women's basketball program's all-time leading scorer, has signed a contract to play professionally in Turkey. While her exact team has yet to be announced, she will compete in the Fiba Eurocup League.
"I would like to say that it is an honor and a privilege to be considered a professional athlete," Watkins said. "I'm thankful to everyone in my corner who believed in me and never let me doubt myself. This is an amazing honor and a great achievement."
Watkins made the most of her career at Binghamton, graduating last spring as the program's all-time leading scorer. She was a three-time America East all-star and was the conference's Player of the Year as a senior. Her 2,125 career points also ranks ninth all time in America East Conference history.
In addition, Watkins was a two-time ECAC All-Star. After earning second-team honors as a junior, she was elevated to the first team this past spring.
Although her standout college career is in the rearview mirror, Watkins is both thankful and excited for the opportunity she has ahead of her.
"I'm blessed to be continuing my career in Turkey," she said. "It's a beautiful country and my agent did a wonderful job in providing me with this opportunity. The league is very competitive and I am excited to see what the next few months have in store for me."
