ALBANY, N.Y. - The Binghamton Volleyball team (3-12, 1-1 AE) dropped a tight match to Albany (7-7, 1-0 AE) 3-1 on Albany's campus Friday evening.
The Bearcats won the first set 25-21 and Albany took the final three sets 25-21, 25-22 and 28-26.
Gaby Alicea lead Binghamton with 14 kills and 11 digs while
Erin Shultz posted 12 kills and 13 digs.
Victoria Keghlian recorded a new career-high 11 kills.
Samantha Gioiosa lead the Bearcats with 24 digs.
The Bearcats dominated the first set after getting out to an early lead. Albany battled back to 20-23 but Binghamton was able to capitalize on an Albany error and claimed the match on a kill from Gaby Alicea.
Albany came out firing in the second game. Both teams battled point-for-point until Albany was able to secure a 23-21 lead. The Great Danes scored the next to points on Binghamton attacking errors and won the set 25-21.
The Great Danes got out to an early lead in the third game, but Binghamton hung around and kept the set close. Albany lead at 21-20 and increased their lead on a Binghamton error. The Bearcats then scored on a kill by Tyra Wilson to pull back within 1. Albany scored the next two points on a Binghamton error and a kill. Shultz recorded a kill for Binghamton but it wasn't enough as Albany scored again and took the third set 25-22.
The fourth set was a back and forth battle until the match was tied at 26. Albany was able to capitalize and score the final two points to win the set 28-26 and take the match 3-1.
Binghamton is back in action next Friday when they host UMass Lowell in Binghamton's home opener.
