ALBANY, N.Y. – Host Albany (4-10, 1-0 AE) outscored Binghamton (5-9, 0-1 AE) 12-2 in the final 4:24 of regulation to record a 61-56 victory in an America East women's basketball game on Wednesday night at SEFCU Arena. The game marked the start of the Bearcats' 18th season in the conference.

The loss overshadowed a 22-point, 11-rebound performance by senior forward Rebecca Carmody. She also finished with three assists and a pair of steals. It marked her third double-double of the season and the second time she has reached the 20-point mark in scoring.

Freshman guard Hayley Moore added 11 points, marking the second straight game she has reached double figures in scoring. It was also her first career start.

Carmody broke a 49-49 tie by sinking a three-point field goal with 5:55 left in the fourth period. At the 4:37 mark, sophomore forward Kaylee Wasco converted a pair of free throws, padding the lead to 54-49.

From there, however, Alexi Schecter took over for the Great Danes. She converted a pair of three-point plays, giving Albany a 55-54 lead with 3:24 left to go.

Kyara Frames then iced the game by scoring six points in the final 2:24 of regulation. She sank all four of her free throws during that stretch.

For a while, it appeared that Binghamton would run away with the game. The Bearcats shot a blistering 65 percent in the opening quarter (11-of-17) to take a 27-12 lead. Moore scored nine of her points during that stretch and the Bearcats drained all four of their three-point field goal attempts.

The Great Danes, however, clawed back to within 35-28 at the break and then tied the game at 41-41 on a buzzer beater by Amanda Kantzy at the end of the third period.

"We came out great tonight but Albany did a good job in slowing the game down," head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "We missed a lot of opportunities later in the game."

Julie Forster led Albany with 13 points while Schecter and Chyanna Canada each added 11 points. Patricia Conroy also reached double figures with 10 points.

Sophomore forward Olivia Ramil finished with nine points, eight rebounds and a pair of assists. Junior guard Carly Boland dished out a team-best five assists while junior guard Karlee Krchnavi tied a career high with three blocks.

With the Bearcats shorthanded due to injuries, Albany finished with a 23-4 advantage in bench points. The Great Danes also had a 34-22 edge in points in the paint.

Binghamton concludes its three-game road trip at New Hampshire on Saturday at 1 p.m.

NOTES: Carmody now has seven career double-doubles and three career games with at least 20 points … Moore has now reached double figures in scoring three times this season.
