Women’s Basketball Wins 71-62 at New Hampshire

Boland nets career-high 23 points, Carmody adds 18 points

DURHAM, N.H. – Junior guard Carly Boland scored a career-high 23 points and senior forward Rebecca Carmody finished with 18 points, powering Binghamton (6-9, 1-1 AE) to a 71-62 win at New Hampshire (3-12, 0-2 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gym. The victory ends the Bearcats' three-game road trip.

Boland, whose previous career-best was 16 points, went 8-of-9 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. She also drained all three of her three-point field goal attempts.
Carmody, meanwhile, sank 11 of 12 free throws. She also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and dished out a game-high five assists.

As a team, the Bearcats shot a season-best 91.7 percent from the free throw line, making 22 of their 24 attempts. In addition, Binghamton had a commanding 28-0 advantage in bench scoring despite being shorthanded due to injuries.

"This was a great team win," head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "Everybody who got into the game played a very big part for us. The most important thing for us tonight is that we were able to attack the basket and get to the free throw line.

In a game that featured nine ties and 13 lead changes, Boland and Carmody combined for six straight points to give Binghamton a 60-54 lead with 2:59 left in regulation.

The Wildcats pulled to within 61-57 on a layup by Ashley Storey with 55 seconds remaining and was fouled on the play. She missed the ensuing free throw, however, and at the other end, Boland sank a pair of free throws with 44 seconds left to go.

The Bearcats iced the game by going a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 34 seconds. Carmody went 4-for-4 during that stretch while Boland and sophomore forward Olivia Ramil each made both of their attempts.

Ramil finished the game with 12 points and five rebounds while freshman forward Annie Ramil scored a career-high 10 points to go along with a career-best four steals and four rebounds.

Storey led New Hampshire with 19 points. Also scoring in double figures for the Wildcats were Amanda Torres (14), Kari Brekke (13) and Caroline Soucy (12).

Binghamton returns home to face Stony Brook on Saturday at 7 p.m.

NOTES: The 71 points represents the fifth time this year in which Binghamton has reached the 70-point mark … Boland's previous career-high in scoring came against UMBC back on Jan. 4, 2017 … Carmody is now averaging a team-best and career-high 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.
