VESTAL, N.Y. – The America East Conference has released its women's basketball preseason poll and all-conference teams and Binghamton has been picked to finish fourth out of nine teams. In addition, senior guard
Kai Moon has been named to the preseason all-conference team for the second year in a row.
The voting for the preseason poll and all-conference team was done by the league's nine head coaches. None of them were allowed to vote for their own team or players.
Maine was the unanimous choice to repeat as conference champions, receiving all eight possible first-place votes. The Black Bears received the maximum 64 points.
Stony Brook (55 points) and Albany (52) were picked second and third respectively. The Great Danes received the other first-place vote.
The Bearcats were chosen fourth (41), followed by Hartford (32), Vermont (29), New Hampshire (23), UMBC (16) and UMass Lowell (12).
This marks the fourth straight season Binghamton has been picked fifth or higher in the preseason poll. Last year, the Bearcats were picked fifth and kept that place in the final regular-season standings.
Moon, meanwhile, was named second-team all-conference last season despite missing 10 games due to an injury. She averaged a career-best 13.1 points per game, including a team-best 13.8 points in conference games.
After being named to the America East All-Rookie Team in 2017, Moon moved up to the third team her sophomore year. She enters her senior campaign with 868 career points as well as a 10.7 career scoring average.
Moon is the fifth Binghamton player to be named to the America East Preseason All-Conference Team twice during her career. She joins Rachel Laws (2004 & 2005), Laine Kurpniece (2006 & 2007), Andrea Holmes (2010 & 2011) and Imani Watkins (2016 & 2017).
Binghamton tips off its 2019-20 regular season at Siena on Nov. 5
