Men’s Soccer Settles for 1-1 tie at Bucknell

Bison force overtime with a goal in the 88th minute

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Binghamton (4-7-2) was less than two minutes away from a regulation victory but had to settle instead for a 1-1 tie against Bucknell (5-5-3) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Tuesday night at Emmitt Field. Despite not getting the win, the Bearcats have gone 2-1-1 in their last four matches.

Binghamton came out strong in the first half, as junior midfielder Lucas Arzan scored his first goal of the season in the 22nd minute. He finished a give-and-go with freshman forward Matthew Cozetti.

In the first half, the Bearcats outshot the Bison 9-3 and did not allow a shot on goal.

Binghamton had a golden chance to ice the game when it was awarded a penalty kick in the 84th minute. The attempt by senior forward Haris Brkovic, however, was saved by Emmitt Whitmer.

With new life, Bucknell finally tied up the game in the 89th minute. Buck O'Hara finished off a corner kick taken by Matt Thorsheim.

The shot total for the second half was 11-3 Bucknell.

In the waning seconds of double overtime, Binghamton again had a chance to come away with the victory. Emmitt, however, saved a breakaway by freshman forward Oliver Svalander and the follow up chance by freshman forward Ethan Homler hit the crossbar.

The final shot count for the match was even at 14-14.

Binghamton returns home to face UMBC on Saturday at 7 p.m.
