Unbeaten Women’s Basketball Beats Niagara 74-55

Moon nets game-high 25 points, Wasco adds career-best 17 points

VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior guard Kai Moon led all scorers with 25 points and junior forward Kaylee Wasco had a career-high 17 points, powering Binghamton (4-0) to a 74-55 win over Niagara (0-4) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. With the victory, the Bearcats are now off to the third-best start in the 47-year history of the program.

Moon reached the 20-point mark for the fourth game in a row and is now averaging a career-best 27.8 points per game. She currently has 979 points and is just six points away from tying Sherae Swinson (2011-15) for 18th place all-time in program history.

Wasco, meanwhile, went a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor. In the process, she became the first Binghamton player to shoot 1.000 percent from the field (with a minimum of 5 attempts) since Morgan Murphy went 5-for-5 vs. UMBC on March 2, 2013.

Offensively, the Bearcats reached the 70-point mark for the fourth straight game – something they last did during their final four games of the 2000-01 season, when they were still competing at the NCAA Division II level. Binghamton is currently averaging 76.8 points as a team so far this season.

"Our team has been playing very selflessly this season and it doesn't matter who is out on the floor," head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "We were able to get a lot of extra opportunities off of rebounds today and we had a lot of different people step up."

Binghamton took command of the game early, leading by as much as 33-19 with 4:14 left in the second period. The Purple Eagles, however, trimmed the deficit to 35-28 at the half.

Nursing a 43-41 lead with 3:42 left in the third period, the Bearcats went on a 12-1 run to go up 55-42 with 8:59 left in regulation. Moon led the way with six points during that stretch.

The Bearcats went on to ice the game with a 7-0 run in the final 1:42 of regulation.

Joining Moon and Wasco in double figures was freshman guard Denai Bowman with 13 points. She also added six rebounds and three assists.

Senior guard Carly Boland and Karlee Krchnavi each dished out a game-high five assists. Junior forward Olivia Ramil, meanwhile, chipped in eight points and six rebounds.

Jai Moore and Maggie McIntyre paced Niagara with 13 points each.

As a team, the Bearcats shot 45.6 percent from the field (31-68). They also dished out 19 assists and finished the game with just 10 turnovers.

In the paint, the Bearcats held a commanding 42-24 scoring advantage. They also had 32 bench points and 14 second-chance points.

Binghamton heads to Delaware State on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.

NOTES: Wasco's previous career high was 14 points against Stony Brook on Feb. 6, 2019 … Moon is the first Binghamton played to reach the 20-point mark in four straight games since Imani Watkins recorded six consecutive games from Dec. 18, 2017-Jan. 13, 2018 … the 1998-99 Binghamton team holds the school record with a 12-0 start while the 1996-97 squad started off the season 7-0.
