Unbeaten Women’s Basketball Beats Fairleigh Dickinson 60-48

Moon nets 1,000th career point as Bearcats improve to 6-0

TEANECK, N.J. --- Senior guard Kai Moon scored her 1,000th career point and finished with a game-high 22 points, pushing Binghamton (6-0) to a 60-48 win over Fairleigh Dickinson (0-5) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at the Rothman Center. With the victory, the Bearcats remain off to their best start in 21 seasons and record their first six-game winning streak in two years.

Moon is the 18th player in Binghamton program history to reach the 1,000-point mark and the 11th to do so during its 19-year NCAA Division I era. She hit the milestone when she sank a three-point field goal with 1:58 left in the second period to give Binghamton a 25-17 lead.

For the game, Moon went 7-for-17 from the field and sank five of her nine three-point field goal shots. She also added five rebounds and three assists.

"My teammates were letting me know that I was getting close to 1,000 points and it was good to get it in a win," Moon said afterwards. "But we didn't start off the game well so my focus not on that. Fairleigh Dickinson is a tough team. They played us until the end and they are not what their record says they are."

Also reaching double figures for the Bearcats was junior forward Olivia Ramil. She tied her career high with 14 points, hitting seven of her nine shots in the process.

Despite their winless record, the Knights held their own against the unbeaten Bearcats. They were within 34-32 before Moon converted a crucial three-point play with 3:25 left in the third period.

Nursing a 42-39 lead thru three periods, Binghamton went on a 13-2 run to go up 55-41 with 2:49 remaining in regulation. Ramil had a team-best six points during that stretch.

Senior forward Karlee Krchnavi and sophomore forward Annie Ramil each grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.

Rachel Niles led Fairleigh Dickinson with 13 points while Maria Roberts added 10 points.

The Bearcats shot 44 percent for the game (25-of-56) and hit four of their five free throw attempts. They also held a 38-29 edge in rebounding.

Moon, who is averaging a career-best 24.2 points per game, now has 1,013 points for her career. She remains in 18th place all time in program history. In 17th place is Helene Thomas (1981-85) with 1,018 points while Jen Blues is in 16th place with 1,019 points.

Binghamton returns home to face St. Bonaventure on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

NOTES: The six straight victories tie the Bearcats' longest winning streak during its 19-year NCAA Division I era. They also reeled off six straight wins during the 2001-02 and 2017-18 seasons … the 1998-99 Binghamton team started off the season 12-0 while the 1996-97 squad began the year 7-0.
