VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior guard
Kai Moon scored a game-high 28 points, leading unbeaten Binghamton (7-0) to a 78-67 win over St. Bonaventure (1-6) in a non-conference women's basketball game on Wednesday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. With the victory, the Bearcats tie their program record for the second-best start in program history.
Moon, who is now averaging a career-best 24.7 points per game, went 8-of-16 from the field and 3-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc. In addition, she went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Junior forward
Olivia Ramil scored a career-high 17 points. She went 7-for-9 from the field and hit all three of her free throw attempts.
As a team, the Bearcats shot a season-high 51.9 percent from the field, making 28 of their 54 field goal attempts. They were also 6-for-14 from three-point range (42.9 percent) and 16-of-18 from the free throw line.
"We are just very excited," head coach
Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "I am a lucky person to coach this group. They continue to play for each other and it's not just one or two players stepping up. We have different players stepping up each game."
Down 11-8 with 2:14 left in the first period, the Bearcats went on an 8-0 over the remainder of the period to take an 18-11 lead. Moon had five of her points during that stretch.
Binghamton built its lead to as much as 48-33 with 5:19 left to go in the third period. The Bonnies, however, stayed in the game and trimmed the deficit to 72-65 with 1:50 left in regulation on a three-point field goal by Olivia Brown.
The Bearcats then iced the game by going 6-for-8 from the free throw line in the final 1:25 of the game. Moon sank all four of her attempts during that stretch.
Brown led the Bonnies with 20 points while Asianae Johnson finished with 14 points. As a team, the Bonnies went 10-for-17 from three-point range (58.8 percent).

Carly Boland finished with nine points, four rebounds and four assists. Off the bench, freshman guard
Denai Bowman added eight points.
Moon now has 1,041 points for her career and moves into 16th place all time in Binghamton program history. Against St. Bonaventure, she surpassed Helene Thomas (1,018 points from 1981-85) and Jen Blues (1,019 points from 2002-06).
The seven straight wins to open the year tie the 1996-97 squad for the second-best start in program history. The 1998-99 team began their season 12-0.
As a team, Binghamton has reached the 70-point mark in six out of its seven games so far this season. The Bearcats are averaging an impressive 74.3 points per contest.
Binghamton hosts Eastern Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m.
