YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Senior forward
Pierre Sarr scored a game-high 20 points but Binghamton men's basketball (5-6) couldn't dig out of a 17-point halftime deficit and lost at Youngstown State (7-5) 73-55 Wednesday night at Beeghly Center.
Sarr scored 14 of his points in the second half as BU tried to cut into a double-digit deficit but the Bearcats could draw no closer than 12 as the Penguins remained unbeaten (6-0) on their home floor.
Sarr's driving layup with 8:15 to play punctuated a 15-6 Bearcats run and brought BU to within 12, 59-47. But that was as close as they could get as YSU used its size advantage to grab 16 offensive rebounds, which translated into 12 more shots. Â
Binghamton also got 13 points and six rebounds from freshman forward
George Tinsley, who played the full game for the sixth time this season. Tinsley leads the entire nation in minutes played per game (39+/game).
The Bearcats shot 50 percent early on, traded baskets for the game's first 11 minutes and trailed only 20-18 after sophomore guard
Sam Sessoms hit a driving layup with 8:07 left. But YSU ended the half with a damaging 19-4 run as BU misfired on 9-of-11 shots to close the period. Youngstown State led 39-22 at the half.
Binghamton finishes off its two-game road trip when it travels 70 miles southeast to face ACC member Pitt Friday night at the Petersen Events Center.Â
