PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – No. 17 Michigan scored runs in seven of eight innings and defeated Binghamton baseball 10-0 in the season opener for both teams Friday afternoon at First Data Field, spring training home of the New York Mets.
The Bearcats collected seven hits but left eight stranded, including six in scoring position in the first six innings before the Wolverines stretched their lead.
Binghamton put runners on base in five of the first six innings but couldn't cash in with timely hits, leaving two stranded in the first frame and the bases loaded in the third.
Michigan scored twice in the first, once in the second and doubled its lead with three runs on four hits in the fourth. The hosts added single runs in each of the final four innings to finish off the victory.

Kevin Gsell produced his first collegiate hit with a first-inning single.
