Women’s Basketball Pulls Away from UMass Lowell 58-53

Carmody honored during pregame ceremony for recent 1,000th point

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton (11-15, 6-7 AE) used a 8-3 run over the last 2:48 of regulation to defeat UMass Lowell (7-20, 3-11 AE) 58-53 in an America East women's basketball game on Wednesday night at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. The win is the second straight for the Bearcats.

Junior guard Kai Moon finished with a team-best 19 points, hitting five of her eight three-point field goal attempts in the process. Junior guard Carly Boland added 11 points, five rebounds and four steals.

It was Boland who sank the game-changing three-point field goal shot with 2:48 left in the fourth period, which broke a 50-50 tie. From there, the Bearcats built a 57-53 lead with 1:22 remaining.

Boland then took over on defense, recording a pair of steals in the final 1:11 of the game. She then sank a final free throw with 17 seconds left in regulation to ice the game.

"Every America East game is a battle and we know UMass Lowell had been playing well coming into tonight," head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "I am proud of the way our team found a way to come up with key baskets and stops late in the game."

UMass Lowell had stormed back from a 44-34 deficit to tie the game at 48-48 with 4:08 left in regulation. Brianna Rudolph, who led all scorers with 21 points, scored six of her points during that stretch. In the final four minutes of regulation, however, the River Hawks connected on only one of their four field goal attempts.

Senior forward Rebecca Carmody finished with nine points, eight assists and four rebounds. Before the game, she was honored with a game ball for scoring her 1,000th point during last week's win at UMBC.

Junior guard Karlee Krchanvi had eight points to go along with a game-high nine rebounds.

Linda Svenne added 10 points for UMass Lowell.

The Bearcats shot 41.4 percent for the game (24-58) and dished out 17 assists. They were also 8-of-22 from three-point range (36.4 percent).

Binghamton travels to Vermont on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game.
