STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Shania Johnson scored a game-high 23 points and Jerell Matthews added 20 points, powering Stony Brook (17-6, 6-4 AE) to a 68-53 win over Binghamton (9-14, 4-6 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Wednesday night at Island Federal Arena.

Rebecca Carmody and sophomore forward
Kaylee Wasco each scored a team best 14 points. Wasco's total represents her career high.
Carmody now has 980 points for her career. She is now 20 points away from becoming just the 17th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career.
The score was tied at 41-41 after three periods but Stony Brook get the separation it needed with a 16-4 run in the first 4:18 of the fourth period to go up 57-45. Matthews had six of her points and Johnson made four free throws during that stretch.
From there, the Seawolves stretched their lead to as much as 68-49 with 1:44 left to go.
Junior guard
Kai Moon finished with seven points and team-best four assists.
As a team, Stony Brook sank 10 three-point field goals and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. In the decisive fourth period, the Seawolves shot 47 percent (8-17).
Binghamton was 8-of-9 from the free throw line.
Carmody remains in 18th place all time in program history in scoring. She is five points away from tying Sherae Swinson (2011-15) for 17th place all time with 985 career points.
Binghamton returns home to face New Hampshire at 2 p.m. on Saturday in its annual Play4Kay Game.
