HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Senior designated hitter
Sean Trenholm delivered a two-out, RBI single in the eighth inning to lift Binghamton baseball (1-5) to a 3-1 win over Marshall (4-5) Friday afternoon at Kennedy Center Field.Â
With the score tied at 1-1, sophomore center fielder
Shane Marshall led off the eighth with a single. He went to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman pinch hitter
Connor Aoki and took third on a fly ball from senior right fielder
Anthony Meduri. Trenholm, who was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI on the day, then stroked a run-scoring single up the middle to score Marshall. Two batters later, Trenholm scored an insurance run on an catcher error-wild pitch sequence.
Junior reliever
Robert Brown (W, 1-0) pitched the final four innings and struck out five. He struck out three in the eighth inning and then with the tying run at the plate in the ninth, induced a fly ball to center to end it. Brown relieved senior starter
Nick Gallagher, who was strong in his 5.0 innings. Gallagher scattered four hits and a run and struck out eight.Â
Sophomore
Shane Marshall went 3-for-4 with a double and run scored.
The Conference USA member Thundering Herd struck first with a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning.Â
The Bearcats evened it in the top of the sixth. With two outs, Meduri stole second and scored on a Trenholm RBI single to left.
The teams will conclude the weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. Â
