Softball Closes Out Spring Break Trip at Furman and Winthrop

Bearcats meet Paladins on Thursday, play three-game series against Eagles Friday and Saturday

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (6-9) was swept at No. 12 Virginia Tech 12-0 and 9-1 on Tuesday. Freshman shortstop Marissa Braito, the current America East Rookie of the Week, finished 2-for-4 and scored a run. The Hokies were the second nationally-ranked team the Bearcats have squared off against in the past week.

- Sophomore outfielder Hannah Lyons leads the Bearcats with a .324 batting average while Braito is hitting .306. Sophomore shortstop Makayla Alvarez continues to lead Binghamton with three home runs and eight RBI. On the mound, junior pitcher Rayn Gibson has a career-best 2.46 ERA.

- As of March 20, Furman is 7-16 heading into a home game against Georgia Tech. Marissa Giambarda leads the Paladins with a .365 batting average, eight home runs and 22 RBI.

- This marks the first-ever meeting between Binghamton and Furman in softball.

- Winthrop (11-13) is off until facing the Bearcats. Morgan Lowers is hitting a team-best .390 with three home runs and 17 RBI.

- This also marks the first meeting between Binghamton and Winthrop in softball.
