Softball Opens AE Slate at UMBC

Bearcats and Retrievers play DH Saturday at noon, single game Sunday at 1 p.m.

STORY LINES

- Binghamton (10-12) swept Cornell 8-7 and 10-1 in its home-opening games on Wednesday. Freshman outfielder Chloe Morgan drove in a team-best four runs. Junior catcher Sara Herskowitz, junior designated player Rozlyn Price and sophomore catcher Hannah Lyons each finished with three RBI.

- Freshman shortstop Marissa Braito, the current two-time America East Rookie of the Week, ranks ninth in the America East with a .353 batting average. She is also fourth with a .470 on-base percentage and tied for second with three triples.

- Junior pitcher Rayn Gibson is tied for fifth in the conference with five victories and is second with 53 strikeouts. Sophomore pitcher Chelsea Howard is tied for first with a pair of saves.

- UMBC (13-11) swept UMES 10-1 and 11-3 in a non-conference doubleheader in Thursday. Julia Keffler is fourth in the America East in batting (.385) while Kaly Winslow is tied for third with five home runs and 20 RBI.  

- Binghamton leads the all-time series against UMBC 32-20, having taken the last seven conference series. Last season, the Bearcats took two out of the three games, which were played at nearby Chenango Valley High School.
