Gibson and Howard combine for five-hit shutout

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Junior pitcher Rayn Gibson and sophomore pitcher Chelsea Howard combined to pitch a five-hit shutout, leading Binghamton (4-5) to a 1-0 win over Incarnate Word (1-13) in the final game of the South Florida Softball Invitational on Sunday morning at USF Park.

Gibson threw the first three innings, allowing just one hit and issuing a single walk. In the process, she raised her record to 2-2. Howard, meanwhile, scattered four hits and walked only one batter over the final four innings to record her first save of the year.

The Bearcats scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Freshman second baseman Marissa Braito led off with a triple. She scored one batter later on a throwing error.

Howards finished the South Florida Invitational with 8.1 scoreless innings. Freshman outfielder Chole Morgan batted a team-best .313 for the weekend while sophomore first baseman Alex Guay led the Bearats with three RBI.
