CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Binghamton softball team (3-5) lost both of its games on Saturday afternoon in the second day of the South Florida Invitational. The Bearcats fell 2-1 to Bethune Cookman (5-14) and 8-5 to Western Michigan (2-7).
In the opener against Bethune Cookman, junior outfielder
Amanda Ricci scored on a fielding error in the bottom of the second inning, putting the Bearcats ahead 1-0. The Wildcats, however, came back with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Destiny Enriquez improved to 2-1 with the victory while junior pitcher
Rayn Gibson fell to 1-1 with the loss.
In the nightcap, Binghamton score three times in the top of the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. Freshman designated player
Sophia Pappas had the big hit with a two-run single. Two innings later, freshman outfielder
Chloe Morgan single home another run, padding the lead to 5-2.
Things unraveled, however, in the bottom of the sixth inning as Western Michigan plated six runs. Sydney Stefanick delivered the big blow with a grand slam.
Stefanick also pitched the full seven innings, raising her record to 2-2. Junior pitcher Rozyln Price, meanwhile, was tagged with the loss, dropping her record to 1-1.
Binghamton concludes play at the South Florida Invitational with a 9 a.m. game on Sunday against Incarnate Word.
