VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton women's basketball program has received a National Letter of Intent (NLI) from
Clare Traeger (Dallas, Texas), a 5-10 guard/forward from Prestonwood Christian Academy. She will joins the Bearcats this coming fall to begin her freshman year.
Traeger is a two-time Texas Association of Parochial and Private Schools (TAPPS) All-State selection, having being named to the second team as a senior and earning honorable mention status as a junior. She was also named First-Team All-District by the TAPPS both years. For her career, Traeger broke the district record with over 1,000 rebounds during her final three years of high school.
"Clare is a solid versatile player and with her size she will have the capability to play a few positions within our style," head coach
Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "She will have the ability to excel in our up tempo game by running the floor and attacking from the wings, while also being a threat from behind the arc. Clare is also going to add to our culture here at Binghamton."
As a senior, Traeger averaged 10.9 points, 13.2 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 2.1 assists per game. She led her team to the State 6A Final Four and was a McDonald's All-American nominee. With 421 rebounds, she broke the district record and was named the TAPPS Defensive Player of the Year. In her junior season, Traeger also led her program to the State 6A Final Four and averaged 10.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
Prior to her career at Prestonwood, Traeger was a National Figure Skating Competitor and Ice Dancer for the United States Figure Skating Association. She competed from 2004-15 and retired with Senior Level status (completing every level with the exception of Olympic competition).
In the classroom, Traeger was member of the National Honor Society.
Traeger is the fifth high school senior to sign a NLI with Binghamton this academic year. Back in November, the program welcomed
Cassidy Roberts (Valley Stream, N.Y),
Denai Bowman (Clinton, Md.),
Zahra Barnes (Rockville, Md.) and
Matilda Soric (Osijek, Croatia).
