WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Danielle Rocheleau and Julianna Kocenski each drove in a pair of runs, powering Hartford (18-24, 5-9 AE) to a 9-2 win over Binghamton (15-24, 4-10 AE) in an America East softball game on Sunday afternoon at the UH Softball Field. With the victory, the Hawks take the conference series from Binghamton two games to one.
Freshman second baseman
Marissa Braito went 2-for-3 with a triple and scored a pair of runs. Junior catcher
Sara Herskowitz was 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and a pair of RBI.
Braito is now just the fourth player in Binghamton program history to hit five triples in a season. She is one triple away from tying the single-season school record of six triples set by Rose Barre in 2006 and tied by
Bridget Hunt in 2017.
Braito's triple opened up the top of the first inning. Two batters later, she scored on a single by Herskowitz.
Hartford, however, plated five runs in the bottom of the third inning. Rocheleau smacked a two-run double and later scored during that frame.
The Hawks plated another run in the bottom of the fourth inning but in the top of the sixth inning, Braito scored on Herskowitz's sacrifice fly.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Hartford tacked on its final three runs of the game. Kocenski had a two-run single during the frame.
Kocenski was also the winning pitcher, scattering three runs on six hits and striking out three batters in 7.0 innings to improve to 12-13. The loss was tagged to junior pitcher
Rozlyn Price, who is now 3-6.
Sophomore first baseman
Madison Germano finished 2-for-3 for the Bearcats. For the series against Hartford, she batted a team-best .667 (4-for-6).
Herskowitz finished the weekend 4-for-10 (.400) scored three times and had three RBI. Â She now has a team-best 29 RBI for the season.
Binghamton returns home for a single game against Syracuse on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
