Bearcats win four of six singles matches to post road victory

HAMILTON, N.Y. - Sophomore Ashley Granieri rallied for a three-set win at No. 5 singles to break a 3-3 tie and give Binghamton women's tennis (4-18) a 4-3 win over host Colgate (4-14) Saturday afternoon at J.W. Abrahamson Courts.

Granieri won the third-set tiebreak 7-4 to defeat Callie Bartimer in the deciding match. Before that, teammates Samara Eisenberg, Michelle Eisenberg and Tiffany Dun posted singles wins. Dun and S. Eisenberg also teamed for a win at No. 1 doubles.

Colgate led 1-0 after winning the doubles point but the Eisenberg sisters were first off the courts at No. 1 (Samara) and No. 2 (Michelle) to give BU a 2-1 lead. Michelle dropped just one game in her resounding 6-1, 6-0 triumph. Colgate evened it with a win at No. 3 but senior No. 4 Dun pushed the Bearcats ahead with her three-set win. After the Raiders tied the match again, all eyes turned to Granieri, who dropped the first set but forced a third set and prevailed in the tiebreak.

Binghamton has won four of its last seven matches. The Bearcats will head to Long Island next weekend to face Hofstra on Friday and Stony Brook in Sunday's season finale.
