Men's Soccer Defeated 3-1 at Syracuse

Orange break 1-1 tie with two goals in final 30 minutes

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Ryan Raposo scored two goals and added an assist, powering host Syracuse (1-1-0) to a 2-1 win over Binghamton (1-1-0) in a non-conference men's soccer game on Monday evening at the SU Soccer Stadium. The match was the Bearcats' first against the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) squad since 2015.

Binghamton came out strong against a Syracuse team that advanced to the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament. Redshirt freshman Parker McKnight netted an unassisted goal in just the 18th minute.

Just five minutes later, Raposo fired a cross to Massimo Ferrin who tied the game at 1-1.

Raposo broke the deadlock in the 61st minute, taking advantage of a defensive miscue to score his second goal of the season. In the 80th minute, Raposo padded the lead to 3-1. Ferrin and Simon Triantafillou were credited with the assists on the second goal.

"I thought we started the match very well and got a great goal from Parker," head coach Paul Marco. "The speed that Syraucse played, however, was significant during the game and we didn't improve from the first half to the second half. We have to do a better job at making adjustments during a match going forward."

Syracuse held a 24-8 advantage in total shots as well as a 12-3 lead in shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper Mats Roorda recorded a career-high nine saves for the Bearcats.

For the second game in a row, Binghamton started six freshmen and one redshirt freshman (McKnight). The goal by McKnight was the first of his collegiate career.

Binghamton returns home on Friday night for a 7 p.m. match against Canisius.

NOTES: The nine saves by Roorda is the most by a Binghamton goalkeeper since Isaiah Pettis recorded 10 stops against West Virginia on Oct. 2, 2018 ...
