Volleyball Drops Match with La Salle

Bearcats struggle to close out final sets

Box Score WEST ORANGE N.J. -The Binghamton University volleyball team dropped a matchup with La Salle in straight sets to kick off the Seton Hall Classic Friday afternoon. The Bearcats went down 25-14, 25-19, 25-18 to the Explorers and held leads late in the final two sets before eventually falling off the pace.

Francela Ulate led the way with 12 kills for the Bearcats, and really got on a roll in the beginning of the second set. Anna Sprys was great defensively, recording six blocks. The Bearcats had 25 total blocks to La Salle's eight.

Kiara Adams returned from injury to hand out 18 assists in her season debut. She also led with seven digs.

Binghamton fell behind 10-4 early in the first set before scoring four straight points to climb back into it. Trailing 14-11, La Salle scored eight straight points to put it away and won 25-14.

The second set went back and forth for a majority of the frame, until the Explorers rattled off six straight points to break a 16-16 tie and won 25-19.

The Bearcats were able to get off to a great start in the third, taking a 7-3 advantage on the backs of Ulate and Tyra Wilson, but another La Salle run evened things up until the end. Trailing 20-18 late, the Bearcats relinquished five straight points to end the set and match.

Binghamton has a quick turnaround tomorrow and will face Seton Hall and Northeastern to conclude the Classic. Game times set to start at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. respectively.
