VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting New Hampshire (10-9, 3-3 America East) erased a nine-point second half deficit with 58 percent shooting and handed Binghamton men's basketball (8-12, 2-5 AE) a 77-69 setback Saturday afternoon at the Events Center.
The Bearcats stretched a two-point halftime lead with a 7-0 run to open the second half and led 39-30 with 17:36 left. Sophomore guard
Sam Sessoms scored 19 of his game-high 28 points in the second frame and BU still led by eight, 46-38, with 13:59 left after a driving Sessoms layup.Â
But UNH countered with a 14-3 run to take its first lead since the game's opening bucket and BU had to play catchup over the remaining 10 minutes. Freshman forward
George Tinsley hit a tough layup in traffic with 3:11 left, bringing the Bearcats to within one, 68-67. But the Wildcats responded with their own driving layup and BU finished the game with six straight misses plus a turnover. New Hamphshire sealed the road win with 5-of-7 free throw makes in the final 41 seconds.
Sessoms went over the 20-point mark for the third straight game and 10th time this season. Tinsley had 13 points (5-of-7 FG) and eight rebounds and senior guard
Richard Caldwell, Jr. added 10 points and nine boards. Starting center
Pierre Sarr was limited to 19 minutes with foul trouble one game after posting a double-double and playing a huge role in BU's win at Stony Brook.Â
The Bearcats, who rank 24th in the country in three-pointers per game (9.7), hit 11 against UNH.Â
Binghamton next plays Wednesday night at Hartford. Â
