Women’s Basketball Wins 63-53 at New Hampshire

Moon and Krchnavi each record a double-double

DURHAM, N.H. – Senior guard Kai Moon finished with 25 points and 11 rebounds while fellow senior guard Karlee Krchnavi had 14 points and 11 rebounds, powering Binghamton (14-6, 3-4 AE) to a 63-53 win at New Hampshire (6-13, 3-4 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Lundholm Gym. The victory is the Bearcats' second in their past three games.

Moon went 7-of-12 from the field and was 5-of-6 from beyond the three-point arc. She also dished out two assists and recorded a pair of steals. The double-double was the second of Moon's career.

Krchnavi, meanwhile, was 5-of-8 from the field and drained four of her six three-point field goal attempts. She also dished out three assists. Like Moon, the double-double was the second of Krchnavi's career.

The Bearcats as a team shot 60 percent from three-point range (12-of-20). It marks their best performance since shooting 60 percent (9-of-15) against Cornell on Nov. 9, 2018. In addition, the 12 treys tied the fifth-best, single-game total in program history.

"I was proud of our team today," head coach Bethann Shaprio Ord said. "This is a tough league to win on the road. We know people are going to guard Kai tough and we had Karlee hit a lot of big shots for us today which opened things up for Kai. We focused on played good transition defense because we knew our offense was going to be there for us."

The Bearcats never trailed in the game, scoring the game's first nine points and going up 20-12 at the end of the first period. Junior forward Olivia Ramil scored seven points during that stretch and the Bearcats as a team shot 50 percent (8-of-16).

New Hampshire got to within 20-16 on a layup by Ashley Story with 8:02 left in the second period. From there, however, the Bearcats closed out the first half on a 12-5 run to go up 32-21 at the break. Moon had five of her points during that stretch.

In the third quarter, Moon put the team on her back, scoring 12 of Binghamton's 18 points as the Bearcats went up 50-35. Senior Carly Boland then drained a pair of three pointers within the first five minutes of the final period as the Bearcats built their lead to 61-45.

Led by Boland's five assists, Binghamton dished out 16 assists while committing only 12 turnovers.

Story and Amanda Torres each led New Hampshire with 14 points. The Wildcats as a team finished with a 38-16 advantage in points in the paint.

Moon now has 1,283 points for her career and moves into sixth place all time in program history. Against New Hampshire, she surpassed Cathy Mackin, who scored 1,269 points from 1994-98.

In addition, by going 6-for-8 from the free throw line, Moon now has 374 made free throws for her career. She is tied with Laura Sario (2004-08) for sixth place all time in Binghamton program history.

Moon and Krchnavi are the first two Binghamton players to record double-doubles in the same game since Ramil and Rebecca Carmody did the same at Niagara on Dec. 5, 2018.

Binghamton returns home to face Hartford on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

NOTES: The Bearcats' 14-6 overall record is their best through 20 games since starting the 2001-02 season 16-4 … Moon has now scored 20 or more points in four straight games. She is averaging a career-best 20.8 points per game, which is on track to be the program's second-best, single-season total. Bess Greenberg averaged a program-best 21.3 points during the 1999-2000 campaign.
