OLEAN, N.Y. – Tori Harris finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds, powering St. Bonaventure (1-1) to a 67-57 win over Binghamton (0-2) in a women's basketball non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon at the Reilly Center. The game marked the Bearcats' first contest in 14 days as well as their final scheduled non-conference action of the season.
Harris shot 6-for-12 from the field and drained two of her four three-point field goal attempts. She also swished six of her seven free throw shots.
Senior forward
Kaylee Wasco led the Bearcats with 16 points, going 7-for-8 from the field and nailing both of her three-point field goal attempts. Junior guard
Hayley Moore and sophomore guard
Denai Bowman each added nine points. Bowman also recorded seven rebounds, three assists, a pair of blocks and a steal.
Sophomore guard
Clare Traeger, meanwhile, grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with seven points, three assists and three steals. She is now averaging a team-best 10.5 rebounds for the season and is the first Bearcat player to reach double figures in rebounding in two straight games since
Rebecca Carmody during the 2018-19 season. Traeger had a career-high 11 rebounds against Fairleigh Dickinson in the season opener back on Dec. 2.
Binghamton trailed 40-32 at the half as the Bonnies shot 52 percent during the opening 20 minutes of play. The Bearcats, however, came storming back in the second half. They pulled to within 57-55 on a pair of made free throws by sophomore guard
Cassidy Roberts with 3:48 left in regulation.
Both teams went scoreless on their ensuing possessions before Deja Francis converted a layup, padding the St. Bonaventure lead to 59-55 with 2:40 remaining. She finished the game with 13 points.
From there, Bonnies put the game away at the free throw line, going 8-for-8 during the final 1:58 of the game. Harris hit all four of her foul shots during that stretch.
"Tonight was a good game to learn from and we are definitely improving," head coach
Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "I was proud of the way we battled back in the second half. We were hustling after every loose ball to get back in the game. I thought Denai and Clare both did a great job defensively."
St. Bonaventure had a commanding 50-33 advantage in rebounding as well as a 38-24 edge in points in the paint.
Roberts finished with a career-best six points off the bench. Fellow sophomore guard
Zahra Barnes chipped in seven points and added a career-high five rebounds.
Binghamton now turns its attention to America East Conference play. The Bearcats head to defending champion Stony Brook this weekend for games on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Tip off for both contests is 2 p.m.
NOTES: Wasco finished one point off her career-high of 17 points, which came against Niagara on Nov. 16, 2019. Right after the game, she officially graduated from Binghamton University with her bachelor's degree during a virtual ceremony.
