Women’s Basketball Defeats Vermont 76-53

Moon leads four players in double figures with 21 points

VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior guard Kai Moon scored a game-high 21 points, pacing Binghamton (17-8, 6-6 AE) to a 76-53 win over Vermont (12-14, 6-7 AE) in an America East women's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Dr. Bai Lee Court at the Events Center. With the win, the Bearcats improve to 10-2 this season on their home floor. In addition, the 17 victories ties Binghamton's fourth-best single season total during its 19-year NCAA Division I era.

Moon, who continues to average a career-best 20.2 points game, led four Bearcats who reached double figures in scoring. Senior guard Carly Boland finished with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists, a block and a pair of steals. Junior forward Olivia Ramil and freshman guard Denai Bowman each added 10 points.

As a team, Binghamton outrebounded Vermont 40-23 and held a 42-16 advantage in points in the paint. With 16 offensive rebounds, the Bearcats held a commanding 16-0 advantage in second-chance points. Defensively, the Bearcats forced 21 Catamount turnovers and scored 27 points off of miscues.

"I thought it was a great team effort," head coach Bethann Shapiro Ord said. "I was really excited about the defense we played. We took care of each other. When one player missed a shot, another player was there to pick them up and that is what made it so much fun."

Binghamton broke the game open with a 15-0 run in a stretch of 5:03 to go up 33-18 with 2:47 left in the second period. Moon and Boland combined for nine points during that span.

The backbreaking run, however, came in the first 4:47 in the final period when the Bearcats reeled off 18 straight points to go up 74-38. Binghamton had five different players score during that stretch and then emptied the bench during the final part of the game.

Delaney Richardson led Vermont with 12 points while Sarah Wells added 10 points.

Senior guard Karlee Krchnavi grabbed a team-best nine rebounds to go along with five points, two assists and a pair of steals. Sophomore forward Annie Ramil and junior forward Kaylee Wasco each netted seven points.

Binghamton shot 47.1 percent from the field (32-for-68), which was its fourth-best total of the season. The Bearcats are now a perfect 13-0 this season when shooting at least 40 percent.

At the free throw line, the Bearcats were 6-of-7 (.857), which was their fourth-best percentage of the game.

Binghamton heads to UMass Lowell on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game

NOTES: The Bearcats are now 12-0 when scoring at least 70 points … the announced attendance of 2,066 is the largest single-game home attendance for the Bearcats this season. The Nov. 16 doubleheader with the men's team drew 2,510 fans … Wasco was part of the Binghamton Glee Club that performed the National Anthem prior to the game against Vermont. She is the second Bearcat to have performed the anthem this year. Freshman guard Zahra Barnes performed a solo rendition prior to the Jan. 29 game against Hartford.
