BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton University men's tennis team fell to Western Michigan by a score of 7-0 Friday afternoon to kick off MAC action. The Bearcats were led by a strong effort from
Michael Pawlowicz in No. 1 singles, but were unable to capture a team point.
"Western (Michigan) is a solid team from top to bottom and it doesn't help that we are still trying to get healthy but we've got to have a more complete performance on our end," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "We had some spots where we really dug in but it wasn't enough. We get to regroup tomorrow and need to sort some things out to be ready for Northern (Illinois) Sunday."
The Bearcats were led by Pawlowicz, who fought tough in a close battle with Jannick Optiz, but fel down a break in both sets of his 7-5, 6-4 loss.
In doubles,
Dylan Friedman and
Dan Pergel led 4-3 in their matchup, but did not finish following Western Michigan's two wins that picked up the doubles point.
The Bearcats are back at it Sunday with a quick turnaround against Northern Illinois Sunday. First serve is set for 9 a.m. at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
