Sara Herskowitz each finished with two RBI, leading Binghamton (2-10) to a 5-4 win over Norfolk State (5-9) in the opening day of the Norfolk/Hampton Tournament on Friday night. The Bearcats' other scheduled game against Drexel was rained out.
The Bearcats were trailing 3-1 and down to their last out in the top of the seventh inning. From there, however, Price drilled a two-run home run to deadlock the game. Three batters later, Herskowitz looped a two-run single, putting Binghamton up 5-3.
The Spartans got a run back in the bottom of the seventh inning but left the tying run on second base when the game ended.
Sophomore
Morgan Bienkowski improved to 1-4 with the victory. She struck out a career-high nine batters in the process. The loss was tagged to Skylar Swain, who is now 2-4.
Herskowitz was one of four Binghamton players to finish with a pair of hits, going 2-for-3 in the process. Freshman outfielder
Tessa Nuss – the current America East Rookie of the Year – was also 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs.
The Bearcats pounded out a season-high 12 hits against Norfolk State.
Binghamton continues play at the Hampton/Norfolk Tournament on Saturday with games against Wagner (10 a.m.) and Hampton (noon).
