HAMDEN, CT - The Binghamton University women's lacrosse team was able to capitalize on a strong second half en route to a 10-8 victory over Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats trailed 6-3 before scoring seven of the game's last nine goals.
"Today's mentality was to 'take it personally' ... meaning our performance and our answer to things that don't go our way," head coach
Stephanie Allen said. "We needed to come in with a different mindset and be motivated by whatever happened - good or bad. We are proud of the resiliency they've had this season. It was exciting to see seven different girls get on the board today and a defensive effort creating 15 caused turnovers and extra opportunities."
The Bearcats were led by senior
Olivia Batista, who netted a hat-trick that included an important momentum swinging goal to make the score 8-6.
Alyssa Sanchez added two, while five others added one apiece. The team also had 12 draw controls to Quinnipiac's eight.
The first half started with a free position goal by Franze, but the Bobcats responded with three straight to take the lead. The remainder of the half went back and forth, until the Bearcats scored two straight to close out the period at 6-5. Binghamton started strong in the second to keep momentum, and the run was capped off by
Lindsey Stephen's first goal of the season to take a 9-6 advantage. Quinnipiac rallied back to make it 9-8, but key defensive stops and a late put-away by
Paige Volkmann carried the team to victory.
The Bearcats continue action Wednesday at home against Colgate. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
